Hold your own Voodoo Doll

Controlling our destiny starts with being able to control our minds and bodies.  It is like holding your own voodoo doll.  If something or someone else holds our voodoo doll, he or she can control us.  If this happens, then the tread on our mental tires have no grip to hold onto life’s winding road.
If we feel as if someone or something else holds our voodoo doll, and we want it back in our hands, we might have to start thinking “outside the box” socially, emotionally, and spiritually.  Conceivably, every few decades has its own example of a voodoo doll.  Today’s voodoo doll seems to be the many hand-held devices which can control one’s every move. Sure, these tools can often give us more choices towards a feeling of freedom, but so often, they seem to be inhibiting one’s freedom to control his or hers own destiny.  Today’s tools are so powerful; a person can hit one button miles away and change another’s life’s direction.  I just feel these tools are so new to all of us, and we are naive to assume anyone is a master with these tools and knows all the affects. We should work at finding the right balance when needed to relay information over a device or when we need to relate to another physical human being.  We can be in such a race against time sometimes and live our lives merely to cross the finish line.
On the other hand, there are those not in a race but rather a game in which they embrace and understand that there is no play clock. These people play for the process rather than the results. They understand no one gets out alive, but if you enjoy the process, then when you do get out, you will feel alive.  The great entertainers and athletes understand this when they perform.  When they are done and leave the stage, court, or playing field, the audience is fulfilled yet always still looking forward to more.  There are those who know this game of life oh so well. They perform in the same manner and leave everyone with a feeling of wanting more out of this game of life.  The many “greats” that passed in their prime all had this influence on us, whether it was their fire or just a flame.   They truly realized they could only give what they possessed.  What did many of the “greats” possess? Joy, love, hope, and passion for what they believed in. Yet, many now are gone. It is up to us to keep these flames ignited so we can give it to others and help them hold their own voodoo dolls.
